CHARLOTTE, NC (January 31, 2017) -- The Charlotte Regional Partnership today announced The Bissell Companies and Rodgers Builders will receive the 2017 Jerry Awards at its March 30th luncheon at the Charlotte Convention Center. Now in its 10th year, this annual economic development award, named in honor of the first recipients, Carolina Panthers owner and founder Jerry Richardson and Jerry Orr, former aviation director at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, recognizes organizations or individuals who have had a significant and ongoing impact on the regional economy.
“For more than 50 years, both Bissell and Rodgers have played leadership roles in building our region,” said Ronnie Bryant, president & CEO of the Charlotte Regional Partnership. “Like the original ‘Jerrys,’ they understand the value of partnerships and the importance of regionalism.”
Founded in 1964, The Bissell Companies is widely recognized as a principal developer of Ballantyne Corporate Park and SouthPark – two of the Southeast’s largest and most successful mixed use communities. Bissell specializes in commercial development and leasing, property services and hospitality.
“We are honored and humbled to be among a superior group of previous winners,” said Smoky Bissell, Chairman of The Bissell Companies, who will accept on behalf of Bissell. “This award is a testament to our team of 600 members’ commitment to excellence in developing Ballantyne Corporate Park over the past 21 years.”
From college campuses and medical centers to hotels and office parks, including several buildings in Bissell’s Ballantyne Corporate Park, Rodgers is responsible for many buildings throughout the region. Ranked among the nation’s top construction managers, Rodgers was founded in 1963 on the principles of strong leadership, ethical business practices and uncompromising standards of safety and quality.
“Our founding was based on B.D. Rodgers’ passion for building the Carolinas, ensuring that our actions contribute to our region’s economic growth and strength,” said Pat Rodgers, President & CEO of Rodgers Builders, who will accept on behalf of Rodgers. “Our team members bring their best talents, every day, to help ensure that our region and our communities thrive.”
