Providencia officially open its first facility in North America on January 27th. At the opening, CEO Herminio Freitas and Gov. Bev Perdue announced an additional expansion that should be completed by the end of 2012. The company will invest another $60 million and add another 28 jobs to the 56 that were created in January.
Michael Smith, executive director of Greater Statesville Development Corp., commented that “the consistent support of the Charlotte Regional Partnership for our ongoing economic development efforts and, in particular, their emphasis on strengthening ties with Brazil were key in helping Statesville on the Providencia USA project. This announcement and the timing of recent business development trips help to create momentum that we can use in the Charlotte region to bring additional jobs and investment to our respective communities. We appreciate and value the significant role the Partnership plays in being part of the economic development team in North Carolina.”
