In 2009 the Duke Site Readiness Program evaluated over 550 acres on South Carolina Highway 9 near the Lancaster County Airport. These properties located on the L&C Railway which has dual access to both CSX and Norfolk Southern main lines. After completing the study, the Lancaster County Council and the Lancaster County Economic Development Corporation developed plans for a new industrial park at this site. The County approved a $3.5 million bond in 2011 to purchase 100 of the 550 acres to construct the new Class A business park with an additional 450 acres available for future growth.
Fancy Pokket, a Canadian baker of flat breads which distributes across North America, announced in January, 2013 that they would be the first tenant in the new park. The company will invest $8 million in a new state-of-the-art bakery facility that will produce gluten-free baked goods which will be exported throughout the U.S., Canada, and exported to Europe and South America. The new facility will employ 68 area residents and will be the first major production facility of gluten free products in the eastern U.S. when production begins in early 2014.
