Norfolk Southern continues to work on construction plans for an Intermodal rail and trucking facilityat Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and anticipates starting construction by year’s end. An Intermodal rail yard will result in CLT having an integrated multimodal hub which would link together air, rail, communications, and power. CLT could have rail access to three of the East Coast’s major seaports, Savannah, Charleston, and Norfolk.
The $90-million rail and trucking facility at the airport could bring the region $7 billion in business over the next two decades and provide an economic boost. The facility will provide a competitive advantage for our existing companies, and those looking to move to a location with quick, reliable and flexible modes of transportation. The Intermodal yard will set Charlotte apart from other distribution hubs in the Southeast and give a boost to the more than 100 distribution centers currently operating in our region. Stay tuned for future updates on this economic engine in Charlotte USA!
