Access to the world to and from Charlotte USA is entering an exciting new era, with the opening of nine new gates in an impressive new concourse at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The $200-million dollar expansion brings the total number of gates at one of the world’s busiest airports to 111.
The sparkling, ‘high to the sky’ glass-enclosed concourse provides extra benefits to travelers in several ways, including being 30 feet wider than the other concourses and providing charging devises in every seat in the expansive concourse. The new Concourse A North is an extension of the current Concourse A on the terminal’s east end.
The new gates will be served by several major carriers including the airport’s dominant carrier, American Airlines.
This evolution in providing top notch access to travelers around the world, and down the block, brings a wealth of new opportunities for Charlotte USA to grow our economic vitality, along with the quality of life across our region. By providing a portal to bring in new businesses and residents from across the globe, our Charlotte Douglas International Airport is truly living up to its vision and mission:
We will serve as an economic engine of the Carolinas, facilitating the movement of people and goods, creating jobs and enterprise and sustaining a higher quality of life.
We will be the preferred airport and airline hub by providing the highest quality product for the lowest possible cost.
This latest expansion is one piece of a $2.5 billion dollar enhancement of an airport that continues to see astounding growth, with the number of travelers increasing to almost 46 million last year. The next enlargement project is already underway, with plans for up to an additional 18 gates to open in just five years.
The concourse growth is among a number of very exciting plans to enhance CLT. Stay tuned for news about construction of a fourth, and longest yet, runway, along with improvements in and around the terminal itself, including a larger front roadway.
