On September 10 and 11, 2018, the Executive Committee of the Charlotte Chamber and Board of Directors of the Charlotte Regional Partnership voted unanimously to authorize their CEOs and staff to engage in the steps necessary to formally combine the organizations. The intent of the combined enterprise will be to build on the experience and passion of both organizations to galvanize the 16-county Charlotte region through a shared vision and coordinated efforts.
We are confident a new combined organization is the right strategic decision for our region’s future, and the business leaders in our community are committed to building the best enterprise in the country. The new organization will emphasize expanding our base of support in order to drive long-term growth and a vibrant economy and to ensure the Charlotte region can be competitive amongst her peers. We also believe a unified enterprise provides a clear path and single development team for site selectors and business leaders and owners who are considering a corporate re-location or business expansion.
A critical step in the plan for a successful integration was the naming of a Transition Director. The Charlotte Chamber and the Charlotte Regional Partnership appointed Ernie Reigel as Transition Director, a position created to lead the planning and execution of the operational integration of the two organizations until the national CEO search for the integrated entity is completed in early 2019.
Reigel is charged with shaping the new enterprise structure and business model. He is also responsible for leading stakeholder communications, developing a funding model, beginning staff integration and managing the process for naming and branding of the new organization. A Partner and former Chairman and Managing Partner at law firm Moore & Van Allen, Reigel is uniquely qualified for the role. He has served as a previous board member of both the Charlotte Chamber and Charlotte Regional Partnership and has called Charlotte home since 1976.
As the transition unfolds, key dates in creating the new enterprise include:
• New name, branding announcement – Nov. 27
• New Board announcement – Nov. 27
• CEO selection announcement – Q1 2019
The creation of a new economic development enterprise is an exciting and positive step forward. We’re confident that with integrated operations, one vision, one team, one agenda and one office, we can better enhance the economic growth, prosperity and global competitiveness of our region. We look forward to sharing more information in the coming weeks as this integration process continues.
