As Mother’s Day approaches this weekend, I thought it was timely and appropriate to highlight a Cabarrus County initiative currently in the works aimed at educating and attracting women to non-traditional careers such as advanced manufacturing, automotive, construction, and logistics.
The goal of GO BOLD! Bold Women in Bold Careers is to encourage women in Cabarrus County, NC to learn about challenging and rewarding career opportunities that they may not have considered. Why? Local employers have job openings and are looking for diversity in their workplace. They want to hire talented women in full-time roles, offering good wages and benefit packages with potential for advancement.
Women have a tendency to lean towards traditional female roles in the workplace but Go Bold! is about exposing them to ALL
of their employment options. Thanks to a grant from program partner, Creative Economic Development Consulting
, Cabarrus Economic Development conducted a survey to learn how women choose career paths and what’s important to them. Many surveyed said they looked to those within their sphere of influence to choose a career path. Most indicated they were interested in skills and educational path required, where to go for instruction and income potential. Check out the Go Bold! dedicated website here
. I plan on following this initiative closely as it gets underway and would like to hear from others who have successful female-focused workforce development initiatives.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you Moms out there!
